Azure migration for a tech-enabled financial services company

We moved a $250M tech-enabled financial services company's core proprietary applications to Microsoft Azure, saving over $1M and cutting downtime from about ten hours a year to under one.

The challenge

A PE-backed, $250M tech-enabled financial services company ran its business on proprietary applications hosted on aging on-premise infrastructure. Acquisitions had left it with several systems doing the same jobs, and it needed one go-forward platform to serve the business for the next five to ten years, built to handle far more volume.

Our approach

We designed and built the company’s Azure architecture for 99.995% availability, spread across multiple data centers in one region with disaster recovery in a second region, and migrated three legacy proprietary applications onto it. Our engineers worked in weekly design sessions with the company’s senior technical leaders and trained the internal team on infrastructure as code, least-privilege design and cloud-native practices.

The outcome

The migration saved over $1M in hardware, software licenses and resource costs. Downtime fell from nearly ten hours a year to under one, and load testing confirmed the platform can handle six times today’s volume in the near term and fifteen times within two to three years. Environments that took months to set up on-premise, such as multi-data-center SQL clusters, now take minutes.
