Private equity ERP services, from diligence to daily operations

Buy-and-build breaks when the back office can’t keep up. We assess, select, implement and integrate the ERP across your platform and add-ons, then stay on to run it, on NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Campfire.

What are private equity ERP services?

Private equity ERP services cover a portfolio company’s finance systems from diligence through exit. Compello is the one team that does all of it: we run an ERP health check before you sign or after close, implement the right platform, consolidate every add-on onto it, then stay on to run it, so new companies land in the same books instead of slowing down the month-end close.

One ERP across the platform and every add-on

Buy-and-build stalls when every acquisition keeps its own books. We put the platform company on an ERP that can consolidate entities, fold each add-on into the same chart of accounts and controls, and give the sponsor one view of the close across the platform and its add-ons.

Before you sign and once you own it, we assess the ERP and finance systems: fit for the investment thesis, risk, renewal and sunset dates, and what it will cost to fix.

Operate on Day 1. Stabilize in 30. Optimize in 100.

For carve-outs and new platforms, the ERP has to work the day the deal closes. We stand up a minimum viable back office for Legal Day 1, support the team hands-on through the first closes, then automate and expand over the first 100 days.

Questions sponsors ask about ERP

Something we haven’t covered? A partner can answer it on a short call.

What are private equity ERP services?

Private equity ERP services cover everything a portfolio company’s finance systems need across the hold: assessing the ERP in diligence, selecting and implementing the right platform, consolidating add-ons and carve-outs onto it, training teams, and running it day to day after go-live.

The difference from a standard ERP partner is the deal context. The work is sequenced to the investment thesis, the 100-day plan and the acquisition pipeline, and reported in the terms a sponsor cares about: how fast the books close, how cleanly entities consolidate, and how well the controls hold up.

We implement and manage three platforms: NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Campfire, the AI-native ERP. Together they cover most of the lower and middle market, from multi-entity cloud ERP to AI-native finance. We also take over other ERPs and plan migrations off legacy systems.

Because one team runs all three, a portfolio with mixed systems can still have one ERP partner, one support model and one view for the sponsor.

Yes. Many engagements start with a system that has drifted: heavy customization, workarounds standing in for native features, and reports nobody trusts. We start with a health check, clean up the data and processes, move workarounds back onto native functionality, then support the system going forward.

For one PE-backed services company, that took more than a day off the month-end close without a reimplementation.

We put the platform company on an ERP that can consolidate entities, with a standard chart of accounts, master data and approval controls. Each add-on is then folded onto the same standard, so the platform closes as one company and the sponsor sees one consolidated picture.

In one roll-up we brought 18 subsidiaries and brands onto a single NetSuite environment, piloting one brand before the rest.

A carve-out needs a working back office on Legal Day 1. We configure a minimum viable back office (record-to-report, procure-to-pay, master data and controls) so the new company can post transactions and pay vendors from day one.

We then support the team hands-on through the first 30 days and expand and automate over the first 100. Getting the ERP live early is also what lets the company exit its transition services agreement on time.

A senior-led review of a portfolio company’s ERP and finance processes: how well the system fits the business plan, how it’s configured and used, data quality and readiness for AI, upcoming renewals or sunset dates, and how long the close takes.

You get a prioritized list of what to fix, what it will take, and whether to optimize, migrate or replace. It works as a first step after close, before an add-on, or ahead of an exit.

Give every company a back office that keeps up with the deal

Start with an ERP health check: a senior-led review of the system, the close and the data, with a clear plan for what to fix first.
